A Critique about H&H as it is and has been.

First to Loftar and Jorb Directly. I hate you guys for only ONE thing. After being able to live a good end of W9 and start of W10 I finally got to give the new H&H a good go. BUT it has rendered me unable to enjoy other MMO games like I did before. That's your fault. Now don't take that as a bad thing. I came back for a reason. Well a few.


1. With how late I am to this world I popped randomly into the woods and since I knew a head of time I would be quitting for a long time as I had I gave the clothes off my back to my village mates. So I was naked and random on the world and I found a place I might take over, or pick over, and come back after not wanting to cause I don't have time to be on everyday. Now I have to do as much as I can 3 days a week cause I couldn't stay away.


2. The kin system. In what other game could you hide who you are? Forum name is not character name which is not Kin name WHICH CAN BE CHANGED AT WILL. I just commented on this system in another post but honestly I love how we are in the iron age, with magic, with outlaw wild west rules. We gotta know who we need to worry about BUT we will never know unless they tell us. So we gotta defend our land and be weary of allies? No other game does that. One grief and you get a lifetime ban in most MMOs now. Here you can be expected to either A get good enough fast enough to be the one givin it or B you gotta be the one takin it. Now yea you got the people who just want peace but sooner or later Grief be comin.


3. There is no other game that does survival as unique as you do. Some say Rust is close or Day Z. Nah H&H its own brand of horror survival. You would need to mix Silent hill(The good one) with Rust and a sprinkle of like Labyrinth to get close to H&H.

Jorb let me tell you the short version of my story here. Fiance went nuts. We broke up. One of her complaints was I was always on my PC. Which I did spend a lot of time you know RUNNING a village. Had done this for years and she never complained. She went psycho. I lost everything back in march 2017. PTSD Anxiety and more form her. One trigger? Playing video games. Yup I couldnt do it anymore. I bounced from game to game never sticking around and spending a ton of money looking for something different. Finally said screw it I'll try HnH on world reset. Kept thinking about how much I missed HnH and how no game came close to holding my attention or not triggering my PTSD or anxiety. Save Stardew valley but thats cause that game is just pure crack. Last week finally said Fuck it. Going back to HnH now. No triggers. No goal. Fuck with raiders. Break down battering rams/wrecking balls/cats when they have ~6 hours left of them as I find them. Loving every minute back in HnH.


But think about this...This is the ONLY game I can play without my issues effecting me...You have one player who ISNT triggered by the rage it can produce. Thanks for all the memories and if HnH closed tomorrow I would find SOMEWAY to buy the source code etc to find a way to revive it. But it all would be worth it. I make good money now so a year subscription isnt out of the woods anymore and next payday im buying it.


Side note I am now single, better job, reconnected with family, own a car, etc. I'm in a good place with my demons. They pay rent now.

Do NOT get me wrong I am doing just that. See I don't know when but I have a sneaking thought that the world reset may be only a couple months away. Just a nag in the back of my mind. So since I am not strong. No skilled. Not in a place I can do much. I decided let's fuck with raiders. Heres how I do it!
1. Every time I see a wall breaker(Cat,Ram,WB) I destroy or move it.
2.Found a place partially raided. I rebuilt the wall. It is dry. If they come back they gonna need to break it again. At that point see #1
3. If I find a place that looks like they tried and just hadn't finished yet(WB up wall at 1% health left) I take down the wrecker and repair all the walls.
4. If I find RS with messages like "Hey you still around?" I make a RS that says "Yes if you try to raid me I will kill you."
And these are for anywhere I go mind you.

Now normally I would never do any of this really unless it was against my own claims. But hey I wanted to have fun for a bit. And if I am wrong and no reset is coming then I will use the place I currently took from raiders to build stats and gear up before I go looking for another place to do the same thing.

i agree with op. i had quit about a year ago after some life troubles. i was putting off hnh for a new world but gave in after playing a few other mmo's but without satisfaction. playing as a hermit, i had some gear still on me but my base was half broken with someone claiming and building walls up but they had quit too by the time i came back haha

credos seem unrefined with deaths reducing the quests required. quality grind is there but the main draw is the horror and community. all in all the dev direction seems to be in a good direstion, hoping to one day play on my laptop haha

I want to list some other MMOs/games I tried in this last year and I will add the HRI(Haven Replacement Index)

Rust: To many assholes no real way to defend base when you cannot give hours of commitment. Graphics were okay. Crafting system decent. I give 6/10 but on the HRI 3/10. I just missed the charm and when you get a gun...NO skill needed to start wrecking people.

DC Universe Online: I loved this game. Still do. But its too "Pay up bitch" for my liking. If they had a lifetime account I would own one and p[lay both HnH and DCUO. But the PVP sucks. I quit just before stat revamp and havnt tried again since. Overall 8/10 but HRI is 0/10

Star Trek Online: This one is not fair cause I played it before I came to HnH2 and Again if I had the lifetime I would still enjoy it. Not so much "pay us" anymore. Never really was. Fun game. 9/10 But sadly HRI is 0/10

Stardew Valley. Okay I said this game is pure crack. I have over 300 combined hours in it. I enjoy every aspect of it but as of right now, cause they are working on it, no multiplayer. 9/10 without multi 10/10 when it comes out. Highest HRI here at 6/10.

Tree of Life. Touted by many as the 3d HnH experience. NOT. You have a skill point cap. You cannot do everything alone. You get ONE character so unless you buy multiple copies no alts. This is all from when I played it years ago. However it is kind of fun. Similar to HnH but has its own unique version of hell that I didn't enjoy as much. Oh and I had built a village and "The fog of You can't build here" got moved over my town so the devs could alter the map and I lost 6 months worth of work. They did not care. Massive piss off. 4/10 with pissed off adjustment of -2. HRI 5/10. Again own unique hell I don't care for as much. Though the DO have automated arrow towers that when loaded with arrows will fire at criminals. But they fire at all criminals and when empty they are out. Common tactic is to just use a criminal with good armor to take a bunch of arrows, run away, heal, rinse repeat.

Destiny 1/2 I won't even comment. 5/10 for both HRI 0/10.


I can go on but I spent about 600$ trying to find a new game to enjoy. I ended up back here.
