Farming is too easy: weeds

There's litte to no effort in farming, while other professions have their issues like hunter actually requiring you to risk your good health, miner ALSO, growing trees has a chance to stunt them... farming can very rarely decrease quality by up to... -5 (usually it just drops stable -1).

Idea is, add weeds that take over the crop tiles over time. If not taken care of, they destroy the crop growing on the tile. How to prevent it? New tool - rake or hoe whatever you like.
It should be automated just as farming, select area to rake of weeds and ta-da. I know it sounds useless but it would add valuable effort that isn't too tedious.

Random chance to spawn a weed that would attack and potentially kill you when you harvest a crop.

fuck no, its a nightmare to actually find people willing to farm. lets not piss those measly few off even more.

and it wouldnt affect the large cities that just bot their farms anyway.

It doesn't affect you that much anyway. Just one more action that is a threat for your crops. Mining is way more tedious than farming. So is hunting for any sensible q of animals unless your quality spots bless you with spawns all the time. There's no other challenge factor to farming than initial outlining of fields and then planting/harvesting which is necessary evil which rewards you for the effort you put in with formula effort<rewards. Unlike mining which has then % chance to actually smelt the ore you dug out.

Unless... we're talking trelis crops. Those rarely care about weeds so we shouldn't make those affected by weeds in anyway. Trelis farmers that aren't bots do have it hard. Rest: Image

funny how you never seem to see a lack of miners and hunters. yet many are loath to farm. as i said, dont make farming lose yet more appeal.

yeah let's make boring tedium even more boring and annoying

that sure is why i can still stomach playing this game, i sure do love working a full time job to raise the number on my helmet and shoes so i can not compete because death doesnt exist any more

on that note if a field hasn't been harvested for up to a week, two or maybe a month, weeds and overgrowth (over a long period of time) in place of decay would be neat

Also it wouldn't be that annoying. Just click and drag area to rake.

Refining the idea:

Weeds slowly make a presence in your fields that if not taken care of have a chance to destroy your crops. Shouldn't be something big.

Adding some variety to farming sounds nice, but I don't think this is the way to do it. Using the same exact mechanic on your crops twice (ie click+drag to plant, click-drag to weed) is boring and only adds an extra passive task.

I'm sure this has been suggested before, but some kind of fertilizer/field preparation mechanic could be a good way to deal with weeds and dying crops that also adds some variety to break up the tedium of farming.
