a use for coal

Postby Thedrah » Tue Mar 13, 2018 3:44 pm

coal is used for finery forge, crucible, smelter, making steel, 1 gilding, and making a snowman. all but making a snowman is preferably to use higher q

i got a mine full of 20-40q coal and i'm making 150+q coal in a tar kiln. it can't be used as a stone and the best thing i can do is use it as filler coal in a smelter to extend my higher q coal which feels like i'm cheesing the game mechanics

can we get a curio, symbel, or something to spend coal on? or what do you guys use your low q fuel on other than extending higher q fuel like in a smelter
nb4 cooking/kiln: if i can use sticks, i will as it's easier to chop a tree than mine coal for higher q fuel

Make l o t s of snowmen. But anywho, not every item needs uses when they're low quality, you're pretty much only gonna use your high quality coal and it's fine that way.

Sure, lets not be able to post stuff on runestones unless we have coal in our inventory to write with ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

use low q coal for smelting silver and gold.
also for making low q metals that you use for structures.
and ofc just for materials you like to make in bulk, like seers bowls and other metal stuff that use a lot of easily obtained high q materials to up the quality

^^ This is what I do with my lower q coal, but, I wouldn't mind a new curio we could use it in, maybe one tailored for early game when we first use our tar kilns and end up with a ton of q10 coal, lol, and maybe one for mid-game with added mats to boost the quality. :)

Also if you make tar from q10 blocks you'll end up with q10 charcoal that is essentially a waste product.

is charcoal the same as coal?

activated charcoal can be used as a medicine

charcoal can be used for drawing ... "artist's notepad" curio, maybe?

both of these ideas sound like they'd be affected by quality q though, so might not fit here.

Has the smelter quality bug been finally fixed?

Like the crucible itself, the quality of the coal you use as fuel for a crucible doesn’t actually matter. So use your lowq coal for crucible crafting (alloying, bar/nugget switching, glassworking, and a good number of curios)

I sometimes use low quality coal as fuel for my camp fires.

Otherwise, just toss it.
