Compass icon to indicate ortho rotation

Postby » Mon Mar 19, 2018 7:42 am

I get disoriented rotating the ortho view to look at various objects. I forget which way is north, and spend time looking at the map to re-orient myself.

Maybe a little compass icon indicating north might help.

This sort of thing, not sure where on the screen something like this would best fit:

I like to believe that is an intended feature to give at the player the feeling to be lost in the forest .... but in reality I think is something related to polygons and graphics.
Btw I like the idea, kinda of Wurm style ... and I agree should be a thing but with a craftable item that once equipped after some seconds of not moving will orient, showing the north.

But once again we cannot have nice things cause this would be not relevant at all cause the exploits from customs clients ... get rid of customs clients first.

Or just add moss on the northern side of some random trees :)

Oh, right. There are other indicators of direction.

Maybe I should just start paying attention to the shadow directions.

I dont think that was the reason to implement 3d camrera.

The thing that is not properly oriented with north/south direction but with the tileset thingy.

We can not have north in hearthlands, we have no compasses or anything else.

As one can always orient by looking at the map while moving a permanent compass display would be QoL.
Since player orientation is not server privileged information a client can implement it (and I'm sure there are some that already have), so this should be brought to the official one.

Yeah that's true, but I guess you would agree with me that being a crafting item that you can equip would be way more meaningful and regarding to the player in terms of game progression and feeling to have accomplished something.
We need to stop to think at what can or cannot be exploited, etc... first we need to focus on the game as is inteded to be played, then later on if possible addressing also that kind of problems. If the game is great and solid on its base everything else will come by itself.
P.S. With that I mean also dark caves and all the beautiful stuff that can be added but they are not cause the "fear" of exploiting ... it's a game not a space rocket to Mars.
