Blunt and sharp weapons

Postby shubla » Tue Mar 20, 2018 12:52 am

There should be two main groups of weapons. Blunt and sharp ones.
Sharp ones would work well against unarmored hearthlings and animals. Swords and such.
Blunt ones would be more effective against armored opponents. Clubs, sledgehammers and stuff.

At least it sounds logical that blunt weapons like hammers would be more effective against people with thick armors than sharp weapons, which the armor deflects. The wounds could be a bit different too. With blunt weapons you could do stuff like break their ribs by smashing the hammer. While sharp weapons would make deep cuts, holes and such.

Idk how this would fall into currwnt gameplay mechanics. Parrying and similar with blunt weapons is nigh impossible, same with fast maneuvers. Swords are refined weapons for fighting other humans, use to poke people real good in the kinks of their armor, or at least the swords in this game. Halberd works best tho heuheh. Maybe blunt weapons ignore big portion of armor (equipping shield reduces this a good amount, but shield takes more damage) but have higher cool down on most attacks. Maybe a special toggle maneuver called like "grip change" or something, which changes your damage, cds, and the openings and/or damage you take. If you have the move in your deck, you default at the start is like "wide-handed", or holding it near the head+bottom, which reduces cds, damage, and doesn't effect your openings. Using the maneuver changes to like shallow grip or smth where you are holding at the end of handle. Slower cds, increased damage, and increased openings taken.

your idea is stupid because everyone wears the same gear anyways, they will always just use whichever is stronger.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Not really. Even now, some people rather use axes than swords. And this idea is not only for pvp, but for pve as well.
I think you are very stupid as well.

Different weapon types would be good for variety of fighters.
I already was talking about this idea, and why somebody would choose betwen axe/blunt weapon or sword in this thread:

Cut damage OK, Blunt damage OK, what about the actual sharp stabby wounds?

not so sure i can support this. being heavy and edged, axes would remain king of weapons forever. as they could easily cleave through anything.

we need more weapon types, more weapon specific attacks, and of course, more weapons period.
Newbie and noob do not mean the same thing.

Neither do figuratively and literally.

This. Did we ever have had a prefered melee combat gear setup that didn't build around a B12 (at least after it was introduced)?

You are wrong.
Yes. We still have. Shield and sword is mostly used by people that I know.
