If You actually use your wardrobe, You should have no trouble remembering where and what You put yourself. In case of villages, it would make sense to make labels to everything like even study desks, not only wardrobes which might be shared. Also it's not a makeshift solution but a solution that already exist and I know few people who use it and doesn't not complain.
