Ballot box

Postby Attas » Mon Mar 26, 2018 3:43 pm

In my village we believe in democracy. And in my village we don't use much discord or any other third-party programs. So taking decisions in group is extremely difficult, considering the different timezones and the lack of in-game content that allows elections to properly happen.

For that, I propose a ballot box.

A ballot box would be a special container. Once it is built, each character with trespassing permissions will be able to put one, and only one, piece of parchment in the box. Anyone with vandalism permissions is allowed to open the ballot box, being able to remove and read all the parchments.

In villages, a cairn would be setup in the voting area, enabling the "voters" only trespassing permission, and the "mediators" with vandalism permissions.

The advantage of this item would be to make hearthlings less depenedent on external websites and programs when it comes to polls and plebiscites. I know that most of the villages are small and don't need such a robust system, but there are some bigger villages, and even realms, that frequently do these kinds of votes to take decisions.

You can simulate a ballot box (at least for simple decisions with up to 5 choices) with a barter stand: setup the choices and give each voter one coin (of special type, only valid for that election) to buy his choice (sell stones or whatever).

Downside is you have to build a coin press for every vote...

We have had this idea, and it's frankly the best one to assure a simulation of a ballot. Downside is that our population is quite big and it would be expensive for us to build a unique coinpress for each one. We have a constant flux of incomers and some people get inactive, so their coinpress becomes useless.

For now we are using barter stands that accept parchments as payments, in which the electors write down their own names on the ballots. Problem is that it is not a fraud-proof system and not everyone might be comfortable with telling everyone who they voted for.

I ment that you'll have to build one press per election (not per character), to generate the currency that'll be the voting token.

But the suggestion in the OP would surely be convenient, as it would remove the need to distribute the tokens.

      HA! Nerds.

Sounds a lot like this. Will happen at some point.
