Ability to decide leash length on hitching posts

Postby Ardennesss » Tue Mar 27, 2018 1:08 pm

Like subject says, please add the ability to interact with a hitching post to decide the leash length an animal gets. I'm fairly sure I've seen my horses up to 15 tiles away, and this would also make it easier to set up an area for milking cows/sheep. See below screenshot, this is the best way I could find to easily keep a cow in one spot so you can just go down the row and milk. All three horses in the screenshot are tethered to the 3 posts to the right.

Would be nice, +1. Implementation of it could be along the lines of shift clicking the post a few times to pan through a few options.

No idea if it still works, but people used to use fence gates and trap cows in them to keep them in one spot. No idea if it still works. Nothing saying you couldn't do the same thing with actual fences and making stalls. I think this would be preferable to any gimmicks and such space eating projects such as individual cow stalls, though.

Would it be just as reasonable to just set the length to 3-5 tiles for all animals, though? I can't think of a situation where I want my animals tied to a hitch to move farther than that. (TBH, not sure I like them moving more than a couple tiles period.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Yeah +1, they do wander too far as it is now and you can absolutely guarantee if you have a hitching post anywhere near a gate and open it the animal will walk straight into the open gate and stay there! :x

It doesn't work anymore, that's what I used to do back in Legacy but it's been fixed. You can trap them between two door segments, but you can't reach them to milk if you do it that way.

I asked during the livestream and Jorb said it'd be super easy to change the leash length, but I think a variable length would be best to please everyone involved. Some might enjoy having a longer leash to let their horse roam around, and some might have them on the post for a specific reason and want them contained to 2-3 tiles.

Too marginal.
