World generation is too random

There is way too much randomness to the world generation in Hafen, even taking a look at the odditown map makes you do a double-take at how many lakes and rivers criss-cross the world:

There is no way this could ever be mistaken for a normal map, it looks like a child's interpretation of the world.

There are little to no major points of reference besides mountains, more sprawling forests and more grassland would actually help navigation since currently you're never quite sure which grassy plain or forest out of hundreds you're in. Nice looking, sprawling meadows and grasslands are strangely cut off by rivers and lakes constantly, making road-building and adventuring by foot annoyingly hard (more frequent shallow water crossings did fix this to an extent but it's still annoying.) I'd also talk about how many settlements there are within close proximity and that you can't go more than a few minimaps before you trip over the 15th village in a half an hour you've found but that's been discussed quite frequently I think. The world should be made much larger unless there is a better structure decay system implemented.

Larger, more consistent biomes and far fewer lakes and rivers would go a long way towards fixing this, and would also potentially make lakes and waterways even more valuable as methods of quick transportation and trade.

I've thought the same thing tbh, about this worlds map in particular ... I do think it's important to have a connecting water way system and there shouldn't be too few rivers but this world is overrun with them and there are no real land masses which does feel unreal to me. I think we went from one extreme to the other and I would also like to see larger biome areas.

You can't confuse a real world with a generated one, though. The expanses of a real world would quickly become boring in a vidya game without the variance and beauty of a real world. It's not just a question of how the map looks, but of how it plays.

Not saying there isn't stuff to work on, because there is.

The way the map plays is, imo, quite garbage though.

Thanks for responding.

Maybe garbage is a little harsh, it works well enough for the most part. my only complaint is when you look at the online map it looks quite ugly, but you still get large enough pieces of land to settle and well connected water systems to travel everywhere in your knarr.

It is mostly an aesthetic request/gripe, I agree. However it does feed into how the world feels and plays as a result of having such convoluted generation.

The generation is fine. If i could change it though, I would say 20% less water
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

I dont expect an answer but, how enterteining or boring would be a W11 with way more water?, like HUGE lakes, and less earth.. hmm
Good idea!

wouldnt be boring at all if you had a reason to be a seafarer. I cant wait for the day that some big ass narwhal starts eating your lil hearthlings to bits on the open ocean lol. Good god, give us whaling, would be awesome.

Realistic river networks plox. It'd make both boat and horse travel so much nicer.
