Possible fix to foraging

Postby Mario_Demorez » Tue Apr 03, 2018 7:34 pm

A new two handed tool could be added to fix the quality difference of foragables and craftables. The tool would need glass, metal, soil, and wood. It would craft a “spade and jar” which would require both hands. One hand holding a jar with soil at the bottom and holes poked in the top. The other hand would be a metal spade that was used to extract the foragable. The resulting quality of the foragable would be the average of the base foragable and the q of the tool. You could also make it where you craft the spade and jar seperatably and the jars are a one time use until the forageable is taken out of jar and make the quality of the foragable slowly raise over a day or something.

I like the idea. I dont know of anything else that raises Q over time so maybe just the straight avg of tool+forageble. Or maybe some stats could tie in as well... lore? perception? dexterity?
maybe even credos would boost/speed it somehow...foraging... ... ...?

I'm guessing metal nuggets? maybe 2 4 or 5 but prolly only 1. a bar is way too much metal for a lid on a glass jar and spade blade. I'm thinking 1 nugget for the jar lid and 3-4 for the spade blade
1branch
2 glass? 3?

what would it be called? spade & jar, dunderhead. why you no read?

a better fix imo would be a totem/compost that would increase q of nearby area for forageables. especially if it has a medium-large radius and gets village shield protection so villages can plant them along their border

Just make the quality of foraged items (toolq+herbq)/2. The tool being shovel.

Why shovel? Wouldn't be a knife and some sort of bucket more practical?

Sounds like an okay idea to me. Tool shouldn't be a shovel unless its a plant gathered for its roots, or as a method to retain quality when potting(there should be a penalty on initially potting foraged items imo). The knife makes more sense, or clippers even.

I don't necessarily hate it, but I also think we could do more with things like quest givers buffing things.

When you craft it the quality of the item is either determined by the soil below you or a base quality of 10. While holding this item you are given a quest, or maybe even after you finish the foraging credo, that is based off foraging. Not easy quick quest either. Maybe like gathering multiple bluebells or elderwieb. Crafting a level 6 artifact for exp/perc/survival. Maybe even “find a fresh (foragables item here) in 30 minutes” and if you fail the time limit the quest line pauses for a set amount of time. The further you go along in the quest tree the higher the q tool you have. This tool can be given away or stolen. the amount of quality points this tool goes up shouldn’t be based off any stat. It should go up a base amount but require harder and harder quest.

As the suggestion came down to applying the inflated quality of the metal spiral to even more things in the game...

I think this is approached completely from the wrong direction: instead of buffing stuff that was made irrelevant by adding overpowered stuff (in this case being able to plant the most interesting forageables, including troll stuff) the problematic added stuff should be nerf'd instead to make what was once good great again.
