More crops!!!

Postby Lazullis » Tue Apr 03, 2018 9:14 pm

I know that isn't easy to implement those things in the game, but expanding the variety of cultivables the game agriculture could be implemented in a extraordinary way.

We could have new crops such as corn, rice (introducing cultivation in shallow water), cabbage, tomato, watermelon, melon and other kinds of crops. And even new fruit trees like banana trees, peach trees etc.
The variety of crops would expand the variety of food as well. With corn we could made a specific ration for chickens, with rice we could made sweet rice etc.

I hope my idea can help. Thank you :D

this game is more along the lines of viking/celtic/old europe heritage afaik. like why we will never have potatoes

i recommend rye and oats for new grains with celery or lentils otherwise. i would like to see more herbs used for healing such as garlic, fennel, sage or rosemary. would be cool to banish or weaken nidbanes with 'smudging' (burning sage)

Cabbages, kales, and melons could at least be reasonable, but I'm not sure how much fun our last crop adds really turned out to be.

I know my cooks and farmers were thoroughly enjoying your new crops, and were equally excited about gardening (as much of a PITA as that can be).

Go ahead and add more crops!

Assuming they are all situationally useful, the crop variety can get to a point where it becomes infeasible for single players or communities to "do it all." This would force communities to specialize and increase the incentives for trade and conflict.

i actualy like the idea of making it infeasable for a small village to "Do all the things", and if adding more crops is a step closer, i'm all for it... especialy since i'm a carebear farmer...

Agree, and would agree even more other crops with the same "importance" as some that we have today ( flax for increasing string quality, carrot for swill and wheat for flour). Just to put a little variance on the material itself.

A way to make it hard for villages to do it all might be to segregate resources on the map, so you have access to what is in your area that you settled in?

More crops would be kind of nice, but even now I've seen people ignore stuff like lettuce. Most crafts that require salad greens can just use beetroot leaves and while the two crafts that require lettuce specifically have +2 FEPs, they aren't necessarily worth the hassle of managing yet another field.

Not saying this couldn't work, but I generally dislike this idea. Find a nice spot at world start to build your village and once done, you notice you can't grow essential crop there? No thanks. Strawmaned only a little.

While perhaps not the most exciting, I think having more crops along with more food recipes, and related stuff, really adds to the deep flavor and complexity of haven which is one of the things that really draws me to the game. Yes, factions will ignore some of them and just focus on min/maxing their stats, but there are many people who will still use them.
