Ideas for more roofing types

I think it would be awesome to have some more types of roofing for more variety in building. Right now there are only three main types of roofing. Shiny black tarsticks, Yellow thatch straw, shades of green with boughs, and as a friend of mine sums up quite well:

So here are a couple ideas for more types of roofing.

Clay Roofing Tiles
We could craft clay tiles and fire them similarly to bricks, allowing for a variety of new roofing colors with the existing range of clay.

Also, our hearthlings easily have the technology in place to produce this kind of structure:

Sheet metal roofs
While this is not really appropriate for the time-frame Haven is set in, it would be another (albeit small) sink for metal in the late game and let us have more variable roofing materials.

Slate roofing could also be an idea, though I'm not sure how to go about separating the roofing stone from stone elsewhere in the construction.

I'm not keen on metal roofing tbh, I don't think it fits in with havens style as well as being out of the time setting as you say.

I think we should be able to make more use of wood, as in the Great Hall, which would add more variety of colour though and bark which has been suggested before by Redkat.

Yeah, wood shingles would be nice.

As for differentiating slate from normal stone, you generally don't need all that much thatching, so maybe slate tiles could be their own item and carved directly from boulders.

They were used in big buildings during middle ages like castles and churches. Maybe it would have to wait until a new world generation happens but IMO they would look pretty cool.

I tried making slate roofs at some point, but just slapping on a texture looks like trash. I think the shingles would need representation, or at least a flat roof to be applied to. Most likely pushing this to freeform building.

Hey @jorb. Could you please reconsider the decision to push slate roofs/shingles (red thatching material) to freeform building stage as that is delayed by rendering rewrite?

Would be nice to have red roofs for smaller buildings/structures.

what he is saying is, all the roofs are the same, with different colors. What you want cant be achieved without creating a new building with a different roof texture because simply applying the color will make it look like ass(the shingles dont represent themselves properly). so instead of spending time to create more things which will be gone, lets develop other things and just stick with what we have.
