Worth or not worth?

Postby waskander » Sat May 05, 2018 11:25 pm

I'm a poor unskilled farmer who was wondering himself:
-Is there a particular reason for which I can select an area and harvest it while I can't select the same area and plant my seeds in my bag to make thing more smoothly, instead of clicking like a mad man for every tile I have to plant?
-And why can't I do the same click and select area for harvesting and planting on trellis?
Things will be less boring for my poor farmer skills.

While the above are some ideas, which I think someone complained about already, now I'm going to introduce something new, which I'm going to call "Poo-System". Yes, You're eyes work fine and it's indeed "poo" I'm going to talk about.
The poor hearthlings and animals don't ever go to the bathroom and this could lead to serious belly problems, like constipation.
First of all, let me explain the animal "Poo-System". Every once in a while, like once an ingame-day, or more, there's a probability that a certain animal will poo, with no distinction between races, and this poo will decay in one real time day. This poo can be collected, like some piece of soil, and can be placed in barrels. The poo quality will be the same as the animal that produced it and softcaped by the farming skill or survival. After a week in the barrel the poo will turn in "solid poo".
Now, you can take the solid poo and some kind of stone (and perhaps bones too?) to the quern (or a new tool) to make them powder and have as the final result: fertilizer! Softcaped by something like will, dexterity, lore and farming and with quality based on the products used. The fertilizer can be used on the fields and it can increase the probability to have a higher rise in quality and a decreasing prob. to lower the quality of the harvest. The higher quality of the fertilizer the higher will be probability on the harvest grow in quality.
To avoid the over usage, which could bring an exponential rise in quality, the fertilizer could be used once every three to five harvest on the same seed and naturally you can't have a rise in quality if your farming skill is below the quality of the seed.
Secondly, the hearthling poo. I don't think it should be used as fertilizer but it would be cool to have a hearthling making some strange noises while in this kind of WC:https://i.pinimg.com/736x/70/56/7c/70567c39b23a8974a0d0d5f17b0ed5f9.jpg.
The hearthling could go to the toilet at maximum once per ingame-day or more and after the deed the FEP value given by food will have a temporary increase in value.

This are my 2 carrots of ideas. Are they worth something or not?

You can area select plant, you shift right click on the seed to bring up the option to area select. No comment on the rest xd

Wow.... I can't believe that I farmed like a chinese worker for so many months. Now my shift-click skill will go to waste. But the "Poo-System" shouldn't be so bad. It could be extended to plants too or even trees.

There's been several suggestions in the past on some of this. I won't comment further other than to say maybe try searching those out. I don't think the devs have been receptive on it as something to actually add to a game, but it's been a while since I've seen the discussion come up.

You can also use the same method to mass harvest an area, if you didn't put that together (there's also a similar mining feature, I don't remember if it's vanilla or amber though). Also, Amber client has an extension to harvest the closest harvest-able trellis.

The spleen is what the English call it,
We call it simply, Russian soul.”

An idea to consider: Tedium, a Feature.

This brings back memories of the Bay12 Forums and the aggressive suggestions for the addition of shit.

Except for fecalpheliacs, people typically don't want this.

Setting aside how ridiculous the addition of poop would be to the game and how absurd it is that you actually submitted that idea, I'm more appalled at your suggestion for how it would work than that you suggested it at all. There's a probability once a day an animal will poo? So what, if the stars align will the animal still never poo? Why would the poo need to turn solid? How do you think most animal feces work? Even more absurd than the thought of letting said feces get hard, is the follow up behind it suggesting you just grind it up on a quern. You're either totally bonkers or a heinous internet troll.

Wow... What an aggressive comment. First of all solid was referring to the fact that it will get dry with time and it is not absolute to use the quern. It was a way to mix them together to create a fertilizer because at the end of the day that was the objective. To have some sort of mechanism to improve and have new mechanics to farming. Star align to get the animal poo? Nope. It's only a was to reduce and the make the mechanism not to OP. So one could have this kind of "new soil" or powder to use on the seeds or directly on the tile.
And still I don't understand what's so gross. You're allowed to kill animals, dissect them use their intestines and you can't use poo? And by the way it could even be called "the sacred unknown" or even "the deed", so it will not hurt your delicate tastes.

It's a part of the standard client now.
