Stockpile of logs

Postby SlicingTheMoon » Thu May 17, 2018 12:42 am

I was thinking of 2 Different ways to do it, what ever is easier for jorb to program.

1. Adding a an extra option to logs, "Create Stockpile" (Works only if there is enough space around it)
or
2. Build a stockpile structure 3x3 tiles big.

How it works.
If you carry a log and right click on the stock pile you put it in the stockpile, similar to wagon or cart.
If you are not carrying anything and right click on the stockpile, you take out the last log that was put in to it.

How it will look,
Depending on how many logs can fit in it (jorbs decision)
I would love to see 20 logs in one stockpile, then it will either be 5 logs in 4 layers, or 4 logs in 5 layers.
The other option would be pyramid style. 5 at the bottom, then 4 on top, then 3, then 2 and last 1 resulting in a 15 log stockpile, or starting from 4 for a 10 log stockpile.
or other?

Extras.
Either there is a single stockpile design for all log stockpiles (like pine logs as a standard)
or if we want it a little bit more advanced.
The first log put in the stockpile decides its look, if you put first a plane wood, it will look like a stockpile of plane wood logs (great for decoration options)
These stockpiles will not work with wheelbarrows, sins it would not be logical

Benefits.
This would greatly help all villages to manage all their tree planting related stuff, be it carpentry, fruit, silk or crafting.
Storage and cleaning up a village, making it look nicer and organized.
As any new item it could be used as decoration, replacement for walls and what ever our creative minds got to offer.
Always working on intelligent Village Designs.

Well, carts are useful for storaging logs. I remember a times where it was discussed but can't find it now, somehow.

These are quick rough estimates, so I can be wrong.

Cart can hold 6 logs and has footprint of roughly 3 logs. 100% increase in log storage capacity.

Wagon can hold 20 logs and has footprint of roughly 8 logs. 150% increase in log storage capacity.

Important to note that Wagon is much more expensive to build and needs a draft animal to move at all. These can be significant downsides, especially considering if you store your logs in a cart you can just grab the entire cart as it is.

+1, would love this to be added. I wish I had a designated area for stockpiling logs, with viewable container to sort quality between logs.
