Burn mosquitoes with a torch

Postby delsus » Tue May 29, 2018 6:34 am

Hello,

It would be funny to reduce the size of a swarm when holding a lighted torch.
Indeed, it will give the torch some love, as with the new lanterns, torches have almost become obsolete :|
The light will attract the midges more, but they'll burn themselves to the light.
Same with smelters and ovens, mosquitoes do not like smoke, that could lead them away...

Please, all-mighty Jorb ! :D

As they say in game of thrones, kill them with fire.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Would be nice.

Possibly it could extend the burn-time of the torch a little (extra fuel and such)...

+1 this could pave the way for the introduction of moths too.
Newbie and noob do not mean the same thing.

Neither do figuratively and literally.

Would be a nice way to mitigate the swarms of the little buggers.
“We still, alas, cannot forestall it-
This dreadful ailment's heavy toll;
The spleen is what the English call it,
We call it simply, Russian soul.”

An idea to consider: Tedium, a Feature.

Bug repellent. Made in a cauldron using new herb feverfew. Unfortunate side effect is it makes it harder to catch moths, ladybirds, dragonflies and lightening bugs. But when bug repellent is applied you are safe from midges for four hours per application.

Feverfew is also possible to make into a tonic to use on infected wounds. Doesn't cure, only temporarily keeps them from getting worse. Not hugely effective but easier to get than ancient roots...
