Anti Bot Mechanics

What are some of the best anti bot systems you have seen in other videogames?
This is what they do in Wakfu.

While mining/farming you sometimes get teleported into a fight where you must click on tiles that match the enemy tiles. The tiles are animated so its harder for bots to get around it. If you win you get a x20-x40 of the resource you were gathering. If you fail you get a debuff for some time that decreases your farmed resource yield.

Runescape used to have these random spawns when you were fishing/woodcutting and very often you could see bots get killed.

I'd love to hear about any other games that have done bot prevention without hurting regular players.

i think that was what they did in wow by making mobs spawn to fight botters like the rose farming in suramar but alas botter just made scripts to fight mobs or just teleport away.

Here it would be a nice little bit of fun to break up the monotony and casuals that dont mine or farm alot and have something interesting happen. imo makes the world a bit more lively having random puzzles or strange mobs appear like the dryad atm, the eluding that theres more in the world we just havent found yet. Also i used to love the wizard guy while i was gem mining in runescape would would offer me food randomly and it was either a buff or would make my character sick or tp my char to somewhere randomly.

-1.

There are more efficient and elegant ways of reducing botting than implementing a whole mini-game just for 1 thing. The OP proposal does not address any of the farming problems that makes people bot it.

post em

I want to hear from other peoples experiences in other games as well. How do they fight botting and if its effective.
Seems runescape has gone through a lot of these ideas.

In my sincere opinion, farming bots exist because people make fields too large too maintain themselfs the bigger those are, the more boring it is, the less You want to do it by yourself, right?

Digimon World Online has a matching game like the one mentioned in the original post and the option for players to take other players if they think they're botting in order to prompt it. It was ineffective.

Final Fantasy XI added high-level, aggressive Goblin Fishers to the coastlines in order to mitigate lv1 fishbots. The bots then just leveled up past the aggro range or found other places to fish.

Eudemons Online fought with sugar, so to speak, by having trivia going in order to reward players that were obviously there and could answer it. But this didn't -stop- the bots, just gave something to the people actually playing.

(Just adding what I've seen in order to further the thread discussion)

Thanks for adding those.
The Eudemons example reminds me of another game that just did quizes with xp prizes. Some of the the topics weren't even related to the game. Players of that game must be doing pretty good in school.

I remember playing Runescape with my brother, barely knowing English and being excited for having some NPC appear and take us into room where we had to identify shapes. Didn't realize it was anti-bot measure, IIRC we got some reward box that contained gemstone.

Concept is neat but I doubt something like that would fit Haven. In general Haven has done progress to eliminate botting not by hampering botters, but by making them less necessary through introduction of things like shift+drag harvest, Study Table, and the recent crop growth stages.

Haven will have the same issue combating bots that Runescape did. The root of the issue is that it's likely impossible to detect botting because all it's doing is reproducing the server calls that an actual player does when they interact in game.

make cooking /eating / mulberry harvesting /etc not such annoying (1 click instead 20 same(repeat) clicks), and i'll stop scripting it...
or make here only vanilla client and make everyone suffer the same... (here could be included 'marco API' for nabs, like in La2 when they realised that them cant(dont want) defeat botting)

if in ur game ppl have to make 6clicks every 30min, i dont know how to make everyone to not use autoclicker for that

U could try: authentification via creditcard + sms + passport, handcheck and ban everyone who doesn't likes to you
