Butchery Expansion

Postby Audiosmurf » Sat Jun 30, 2018 10:13 pm

I mentioned this in the stream, figured I'd post it here too because I haven't seen anyone discuss it in forever.

One of the few things I miss from Salem is the way butchery was handled! Getting big chunks of meat off of larger animals that can be cooked into different recipes, and split into smaller cuts. Surely not a priority, but I think it could be a real and meaningful addition to the hunting/ranching/cooking game.

Could be tied to the butcher credo somehow, maybe a small chance to upgrade each cut when butchering. Could also by tied to skills the same way farming/mining are, like it was in Salem. Having 3 axes of LP investment (farming, mining, butchery) each culminating in a big 150k LP skill might be interesting.

Please consider!

Could you elaborate on some ways that this system really improves stuff? I don't really get what this system would really offer, that couldn't just be put forward for generic meat cuts. It seems like it'd just be annoying to manage.

At the moment, butchery/meat is just kind of boring. Honestly, I simply really liked the way meat was handled in Salem, I think it was one of the real successes of that game.

I think butchery fits as a task like farming/mining, which could stand to be improved in other ways than simply incrementing your attributes. Could be rolled into a series of skills, affecting both butchery + something else? Ranching? Similar to how the farming ones affect seed output + trees, and the mining ones affect smelt rate + wrought.

Not really prepared to make an impassioned defence of this idea, just an idea.

for some reason i feel like this addition credo/skill wise would help alot to make hunting/cooking/animal herding have alot more depth. Say for example you have basic character and you go and hunt a deer you get 9-12 pieces of "steak" whereas a butcher has higher skills and can butcher it better then random guy hacking at it so he can proc different cuts of meat that can enhance recipes or cuts that are specifically for certain recipes like ribs, t bone, hell they could even be able to cut a chicken up into 2 wings/legs/thighs and 1 rib breast for certain meals.

I also played salem and cutting up meat was annoying. I can already hear all the coders making meat cutting bot if this gets added.
More food gets added all the time but a lot of it is just there to look at.
I think if there will be a reason to actually cook a larger variety of foods then it would be nice.
I wouldn't want dev time to go into adding random foods when it doesn't add anything beyond new art.

The only positive thing about this would be that people can make more meat pies out of pork.

great idea but I'm sorry, this post was already made before by another user who did a much better job and worded it more eloquently

I'm going to +1 but I hope you understand that the +1 is meant for the other thread and not for you
