bringing back the idea of voice chat

This idea has been mentioned many times, and i will not take credit.
I think it would be rather neat if you could voice chat, these types of games always do well with it.
You will need an option to mute people by right clicking them however, and a sound icon above their heads when they talk.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Not many of these games have integrated voice chat because of "reasons," and it's not necessarily cheap. It's too easy to set up 3rd party software to run in the background for voice.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

It is easy to get on voice chat with your friends, but what about people that aren't your friends. If you meet a stranger, or meet an enemy, voice chat can enrich that encounter.

Being hunted down by Bob Dole while he screams slurs at me in a raspy voice through a rusty mic doesn't sound enriching to me.

Then again, I've yet to try it

After my experiences in day z and pubg id overwhelmingly say fuck no, last thing we need is some 10 year old creepy edgelord chasing people around squeaking at noobs about their doom.

Oh man, this is equal parts terrifying and amusing. It would definitely need to be limited to subscriber's only and completely opt out by default for it to even begin to be manageable.

You use discord and skype anyway, then why? Seeing what people type and do already makes me want to avoid such thing like that.

Bringing voice chat to Haven and Hearth would just be dumb and a waste of resources. As mentioned, we all use Skype or Discord. What's the need for Loftar and Jorb to put more server resources into a voice chat that rarely anyone would use. We would all still use Discord/Skype since it has it's own chat system with history. If anything you'll have that one autistic kid playing music or screaming into his microphone as you walk pass him or while you're in a major fight.

Imagine League of Legends with team voice chat.

Just going to bring up the topic of game immersion and how alt tabbing to juggle other programs ruins it. I'm also not about to alt tab with some half kitted warrior in front of me to try and organise a conversation. It's also problematic attempting to negotiate by typing whilst fleeing or chasing someone accross the map.

I can agree on the resource intensiveness of development and implementation though. It's not needed but would make a fantastic QoL addition in the future imo. All of the negative points can be overcome.
