Animal diseases as breeding limiter

Postby Fostik » Wed Aug 08, 2018 12:17 pm

Well, the main problem for me in general for animals - it is the less time you giving to them and the game at all - the more time you will require to kill low q ones, sorting, butchering, etc.
So when you close to drop the game, and starting playing not so mutch, game starts require even more time for animals that breed without limits.

I offer next mechanic:
1. Add animal diseases, that can block breeding, decrease animal health or even kill it if will not treated.
2. Increase animal breeding a little to give a balance.
3. Diseases chances greater if animals closer to each other

If this mechanics will be balanced well:
1. Animal will breed fast if you will pay attention to them.
2. Animal caretaking will require some meds
3. The more animals you take - the more attention you will require for them.
4. Overpopulation make it harder to breed more.
5. When you do not pay attention to them - they will breed very slow.

All of this can be stopped if You just separate them a little. If You have no time or something then stop breeding.

I dont' see a proper way to counter "disease" and secondly, animals starving is big punishment on it's own.

And by not proper way I mean if You have no time to keep them breeding in normal speed, then surely You won't have time to go and craft some fancy meds.

I've considered similar things, but my idea has been to somehow limit breeding to the availability of food, so that you can effectively limit your population sizes to how much you've fed them without having to separate them. I just haven't yet formulated an actual mechanic for it.

+1 - I've been wanting crop, tree, and animal-related diseases specifically targeting undoing the qual grind and destroying the value of abandoned farms and villages.

Sevenless: We already know real life has some pretty shitty game mechanics, it's why we're here instead.
Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.
