Was briefly mentioned once before in a discussion about the lumberjack credo, but I wanted to bring it up in its own thread.
We should be able to directly plant tree seeds in the ground. All trees grown this way should probably be flat q10, or have their quality severely diminished. Also a strong chance of stunting.
Frequently I get the urge to replace some of the many forests I've chopped down, but the effort in doing it for thousands of trees with the current system is just silly, especially when I don't care about quality or even if the tree reaches 100%.
Definite potential for abuse, making replanting this easy. Comically walling someone in with hundreds of trees and stuff. Maybe if the seed is planted within a few tiles of another tree, the seed is lost and no tree appears. There could also be stronger planting success penalties for trees not native to that biome.
