Have you considered creating a bot to guide the new player through the interface?

No, and I'm not sure what you even mean. Title your threads better.

I considered suggesting something like Navi form Zelda that player can summon at will to give advice in immersive way, but it would be massive work to implement in a way that would be useful.

No, you need an optional popup to tell players how to use shortcuts when, for example, their inventory is full of crap they want to drop. This way they don't spend a week click dragging stuff onto the ground like I did on my first character. Or just stop playing because fuck that shit.

I thought the concept was self explanatory. Did not want to use the word bot in a thread title.

You could go deeper and make a fairy sprite to teach players the various functions of the interface.

The interface is 90% of the game. Many players consider the current graphics garbage (no offense). You should make the interface the part which hooks them.

I mean, they could ask their community to write chunks of text for them which would likely take quite a bit of the headache away from it (aside from the need to spellcheck)

This is why the question was open ended. Pretty sure any of the custom clients could do this without having to involve the devs at all.

I imagine it would take a lot of work though. It would also require a lot of creativity to implement triggers in a way that wasn't just obnoxious.

Still, a prompt asking the player if they wished to experience a tutorial of the interface explaining the basics of each page of the character screen etcetera would be an amazing addition, imho. Especially if it came with an animated sprite. Like Navi, that annoying bloody fairy. The game has many unique concepts like the study page and credos, not to mention more stats than Dungeons & Dragons... Show it off, don't just expect the player to love what is being hidden from them.

Edit: Just wanted to add that the graphics seem pretty splendid to me now that I've worked out how to get java to default to the GPU instead of on-board graphics.
