Remove in-game time

Postby DDDsDD999 » Sun Aug 26, 2018 1:23 am

Reading a timer as in-game time is so pointless. If you know it's in-game time you just have to mentally convert it to ~1/3 of its time, and is at best a mild annoyance. But at its worst, for new players that don't know it's in-game time and see 3x the expected time, it can throw things off terribly. I just see no real reason to it.

So well stated that I don't think anyone can do more than +1 this post.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Its a veteran player advantage. Throws off the new-comers so we can get the local resources easier.

I'd agree with you, but the problem is that all durations are set in ingame time terms. That would require a pretty significant rewrite of things.

I can do -1 to this post.

In-game time is cool for the game immersion. It still should be removed, i think, and show up only when player have a special item in his inventory: a sandglass or some other clock.

This post is so succinctly pedantic that I'm glad your opinions are usually bad anyway.

Anyway, in game time is fine as long as it's accompanied by real time hours on the display in brackets, simply because people do know the day/night cycle, and that itself will lead to confusion.

I may be wrong, but isn't the time on localized resources given in IRL time?

Its not even 1/3!
Veterans know that its more like 1/3.something, but some probably arbitrary value chosen by the devs.
