Trader's Credo - (Or?)

Postby Lunarius_Haberdash » Mon Sep 03, 2018 6:15 am

1 - Walk Faster (Slight Boost to walking speed, still slower than 3)
2 - Reduced Energy Penalty From Water
3 - 3 Speed Cart Travel on All Terrain
4 - Faster Wagon for Cow/Horse
5 - Trader's Rest

So most of these are pretty clear, the only one that requires an explanation is the last one.

The last one is a special kind of claim that can only ever be 7x7, and will only last for a maximum of 72 hours before becoming defunct. At no point can one be placed within the same 301x301 region (centered on the previous one) within 72 hours, nor can more than one exist at the same time (from the same character/account).

These special claims have the benefit of becoming immediately active upon placement, but only protect containers and items on it from being stolen or vandalized. It doesn't protect against trespassing, and only applies theft, vandalism, and rummaging protection to vehicles on that space.

Essentially the goal is to allow foraging and travel through the space, but protect the traveler's gear. This is intended as a QOL improvement for Nomad's (since trading doesn't require actual travel, thanks fast-travel. :/ ) but a Nomad credo already exists.

Not related to the topic, but I would want a Barber & Haircutter credo. So people with this credo could do haircuts to others. Would be even funier if you could do haircut on KO target's.

I guess a "trader credo" would be cool, but it maybe if it came with some services / jobs instead of this buffs?

Also add wagon hearth for this credo.

Make one of rewards being able to build this one:
viewtopic.php?f=48&t=58687&p=751270
Precisely: I am asking for barter stand functionality.

My initial thought was resistance, but after a moment's thought, I realized that the ability to build a Wayfarer's Wagon would be an excellent plan. Same storage/capacity of a regular wagon, but able to be locked and a 'slot' for putting a bed in that would allow you to sleep in it like a bed with the same effects. We already have the impenetrably lockable Knarr (though it's inventory is always at risk), so having an impenetrably lockable wagon with a security measure for it's inventory would not be remiss. Though in that case, I'd want to be able to use two keys, one for the inventory, one for the wagon.

1 bonus sounds completely irrelevant
2 bonus sounds too strong
3 bonus sounds like a gimmick and also not relevant because who the fuck would nomad it up with a cart when they get the next bonus?
4 bonus sounds pretty solid but as it tends to be with all movement related things there is a capacity for powercreep
5 sounds like a worthless mechanic that would suck to be implemented and would probably either be abused or used by nobody but you if it has no capacity to be abused

unfortunate summary but it's as honest as i can be

Good catch. So siege equipment would also not be protected on a Trader's Rest.

You seem to make the assumption that I designed this with me in mind. There have been players posting in the forums requesting support for the nomad's lifestyle for a long time, that whole 'used by no one but you' is an old and tired argument that has never been relevant or true. It tends to be thrown out by people who have no interest in a particular playstyle or mechanic as 'don't waste time on this *I* won't use it'.

Abuse? Of course, it would, refinement of the concept would be necessary to help mitigate abuse.
