boating is too safe and boring. there should be a hazard on the open water. if the giant octopus wins in combat, it will pull you under and you'll drown.

if you beat the octopus, it's probably pretty tasty battered and fried!

Sounds like good clean fun.

Silver for the ferryman would actually be useful for something.

Maybe They can just keep adding and buffing wild creatures until pvp is not possible and everyone who steps outside their base is instantly fucked by any nearby wildlife.

They really aren't very aggressive, you can out-run them on a half-decent kanrr, and if you have stats they're easy to kill, even in groups.
