forest idol

basically a construction that would prevent deforested forest from decaying into grassland in a radius (bigger than a normal tree provides for
obvious reasons)
maybe requires forestry?
just something to make setting up base in a forest not an eyesore

Sounds like an okay idea, if a bit larpy.

Maybe it would increase the rate of natural tree sprouting and requires seeds of trees you want to be active?

We should be able to plant trees without the treeplanter/table dance - simply by putting tree seeds into the ground and having saplings sprout (or not) a few ingame days later.

To avoid abuses and whatnot when planting through this mechanic the seeds should:
  • not sprout at all when located on incompatible ground (like paved or stone)
  • not sprout at all when too close to another tree/structure
  • have their chance of sprouting modified by the biome (increased in forrests, decreased in deserts)
  • randomize position by 1-2 tiles distance around the exact location the seed was planted
  • only yield q10
  • resulting trees growing at 1/3 speed of treepot ones

Sevenless: We already know real life has some pretty shitty game mechanics, it's why we're here instead.
Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.

I don't care for the forest idol too much, but what Granger posted here is golden. I've wanted to be able to do this for quite some time. I like the looks of a thick forest, and have slowly built one up before but it takes soooo long with the way tree planting works.

Along with that, I'd love to see natural thicker forests, and thickets that are hard to get through on the edges / in random locations throughout forests.
