When avalanche comes, your character would be trapped in a pile of snow. Only way to get out is to get somebody with a shovel to dig you out!
The hearthling should be in a comical position. With his legs up in the air, sweeping, and head in the snow.

Actually that is quite good idea. The longer you spend stuck in the pile of snow, the more you get frost bite wounds. Eventually you'll die, but this could take like days. So there would be plenty of time to get somebody to rescue you.
