Simply all clay can be crafted in to unrefined roof tiles, then placed in a kiln to make Roof Tiles.
And of course these roof tiles are the same color as the represented clay/bricks.

No quality advantages, just aesthetics, this would open up a huge window for buildings and town themes.

There was talk a bit ago about slate roof tiles, Jorb said it was something that'll probably be pushed back to go along with freeform building.
