Inventor Credo

Postby Scilly_guy » Mon Nov 05, 2018 11:10 am

Yet another new credo suggestion, may be too jack of all trades for the credo concept though.
Requires Tailor, Scholar and Blacksmith.
lvl 1: +25 Sewing, Smithing and Psyche
lvl 2: +10% to Workstation quality
lvl 3: Can create "Neat Ideas"
lvl 4: Can combine "Neat Ideas" into "Confounded Contraptions"
lvl 5: Chance at duplicating "Neat Ideas" and "Confounded Contraptions" with chance of destroying/combining them.

Once you reach level 3, whilst using a workstation you have a small chance of having an "Idea!". This "Idea!" will have a dynamic recipe (sketches already use this mechanic), likely ingredients would be: boards, blocks, bars of metal, nuggets, string, leather, cloth, dreams. The "Idea!" itself could tell you what buff it could give an item (+q, +speed, +chance of extra output, +chance of success, other things?), or you could have to create the "Neat Idea" to find out. When constructing a workstation they take an optional material which is a slot for an "Neat Idea" or a "Confounded Contraption".

When attempting to duplicate ideas/contraptions (mechanic could be right click and select duplicate from flower menu and requires parchment which will then create an "Idea!" which can then be sold (perhaps)). Duplicating has a chance that the thing is destroyed, or you realise that having combined them this way was a bad idea and they fall apart or you break it and it goes back to being "Ideas!".

Oh, idea could be extended to include ovens, smelters, curding tubs(?), tanning tubs(?), allowing us a way to create ones with larger capacities etc.

Not really sure what I think about this ,when people from time to time want to have quality grinding slowed down.

if anvil/potter wheel = workstation then metal/clay circling go much easier

I think its inventor, not inventer, inventer is used to change voltage and AC to DC or vice versa.

AC to DC is rectifier, DC to AC is inverter.

Inventer does appear to be a real word, though I've only ever seen "inventor" before today.

Fair point, maybe makes this credo too OP, could remove/reduce the quality bonuses although I kind of like the idea of someone selling designs for their potters wheel improvement and everyone wanting to buy the best upgrade instead of just being able to make their own.

(I agree with you about experience events, although you can play the system a bit with them). Random is not always bad, and not always as meaningless as you seem to think. For example getting a wishbone from a chicken, they aren't very good curios but they are an extra bone and my chickens are my best source of bone. The approximately 15% chance of getting a wishbone means that instead of getting 1 bone per chicken I am getting about 1.15 bone per chicken. The smaller the chance the more random it may feel but it is easy to play the system, you simply have to do a lot of the thing. So if you want to come up with an idea of how to improve your next potters wheel you need to make around 500 pieces of clay on your current one (for example:0.2% chance of coming up with an idea), and then you only have, lets say a 20% chance it is going to be a q buff, meaning you would probably have to make 2500 pieces of clay to come up with a q buffing idea, yes it uses randomness but on average that is what people would have to do. Frankly I think randomness can add a lot more variety than knowing that you will receive something if you do x then y and finally z, of course most things should be straight forward a completely random game would be horrible, but as a tool for something that happens less than once per action it is the best I can think of.
