would be stylish decorative item, with piano sounds of course.
Without commenting on the merits of the over-all idea, allow me to knit-pick some of the details.
The piano keys: Basalt and marble? I'm assuming this is for the black and white keys? Historically, the keys were made either from wood (Ebony) or animal bone/tusks (Ivory). The closest thing to ebony in game currently is Plane. So instead of basalt and marble, it would be much more accurate to require Plane blocks and any fine bones. Even more accurate would be to introduce Ebony trees.
The strings: Also noteworthy is that modern piano strings are made from wire, not sinew. Though I admit total ignorance of what material was used in early pianos and their predecessors, the pianofortes. Pianos also require metal frames to support the strings because wooden frames wouldnt be able to withstand the pressure exerted by the strings once tuned. They would either warp, making them lose their tuning extremely quickly and making them impossible to retune or they would completely collapse. If Pianos are implemented, they must include a large amount of metal for such frames, as well as (arguably) in lieu of intestine strings.
Now I will speak to the merits of the idea itself. While I enjoy the immersive aspects of musical instruments and many RPGs have managed to incorporate a robust system for player musical performances, it has been my experience that the lag in this game makes any and all musical instruments totally impractical and untenable as it is impossible to maintain an actual rhythm because of totally unpredictable lag times. Remember is is not only the notes and their lengths which makes the difference between noise and music, but also the silences and their lengths.
I applaud the efforts of those who insist on attempting to overcome this inherent flaw, and I mean no disrespect to their musical skills because I understand the reason for their failure. and yet, the result is the same. It simply isnt music.
[EDIT] Having said that, if it were implemented, it would be kinda cool to have the appearance of body of the piano dependant upon the type of other woods used. [/EDIT]
