i just created a newbie settlement and had lots of fun terraforming and getting aggrod by a damn eagle, escaping with 9 hp

Nobody knows when next world will come. There's some news on the 18th. If there's not any information about a wipe then, odds are we won't see one in time for the average new player to either fall in love with the game or get bored with it.

This is a game in alpha levels of development. As always with such things, nothing is permanent.

Do what you want, but the the game here has more depth, I think. There are issues, some are considered serious by parts of the player base. If you need that "polished, finished game" feel, then yeah, you might be better off playing Minecraft. If you don't mind roughing it and sweating through the issues, I don't think this game can be beat.
