serious idea on bows

as bows stand now they are completely broken, a 40kstr 12kua guy cant even get close to the bow guy with out taking ridiculous damage.
so why not add them to the combat style that mc/ua players have? blue red green yellow openings with cooldowns so that players with bows cant just do damage = to cleaves with literally no cooldown and no risk.

it would work the same way is it does now but rather than perc scaling damage it would work like agi lowering cooldowns if you have higher perc over agi.
aim bar should be completely removed and mm linked to how much opening your arrows do.

with some balancing i could see bows actually being pretty interesting in combat and not as broken as they are now.
see homo sexuality trending,. do not do that.

To be fair, realistically speaking, no matter how strong you are or how good you are at unarmed combat, I could fill you with a lot of arrows while you're charging at me from across a field.

Realistically speaking that sounds reasonable, but imagine if the guy you're shotting at has a 10 times better armor than you, is like way tougher than you (stats) and you don't fill him with a lot of arrows, you aim for 1 second and insta-kill him without any real "aiming", you just kinda click his portrait and hes down. That's how it looks like now. Archers made in 1 month can destroy characters made in 2 years in a few seconds with no real counterplay. And yes, we've tried wearing shields, doesn't really help. Getting instant damage with a point&click and the damage is like 40-50% of your health is just not fair and not fun at all.

Even if their armor is ten times better than mine, the arrow would still penetrate it.
And you can't insta-click fire your bow without missing unless your stats are -really- high, or they are -really- close

Bows & Arrows were such hugely pivotally important parts of pre-gunpowder combat specifically because they could pierce armor, and because someone could be trained to use a bow a great deal faster than they could be trained to survive and succeed at melee combat. Small numbers of reasonably well trained archers could take out SCORES of knights, no matter how good of swordsmen they were, and no matter how good their armor was.

Why do you think longbows, and later crossbows, revolutionized combat?

Archery is lethal as fuck.

bears always should be too stronk for single person
archers almost insta killing people outright, despite their armor and hp

The only way bows can be balanced is if they interact with the combat system more. Otherwise they will always be better than the combat system, or worse.

I like the Idea of giving Bows 3 different attacks.
Snipe
  • Green attack
  • Has 5 second charge up before aiming, regardless of skill
  • Aim charges normally at any distance
  • Damage is applied AFTER the opening, meaning you can do damage from the first shot
Point Blank
  • Green-Yellow attack
  • Aim charges faster the closer the target is to you
Volley
  • Red attack
  • No aim required, skill improves accuracy
  • Uses a short coolodown
  • Fires quick arcing shot that hits a location after a short delay. If something is at that location, you hit it. Scents apply normally

maybe not too much, but I certainly don't want TOO LITTLE realism. If you can charge across the screen at a bow-wielding person who is firing arrow after arrow at you and not take some serious damage as a result, I would take some serious issue with that. No matter how strong you are, an arrow in the chest is still an arrow in the fucking chest.

And btw there are people in the actual real world who actually hunted bears by them actual selves before the advent of gunpowder weaponry. so there's that.

With a bow you can take down a RL bear without much problems (plenty of videos on youtube in case you don't want to believe me), but it's definitively a bad idea to try to wrestle one. Thus haven has got it completely opposite to reality, when it comes to bears.
