Druidic Rite, music and player interactions

Postby Yorla » Sat Jan 26, 2019 10:43 am

Apart from trading and pvp combat there are not many mechanically supported needs for player interaction which actually require presence of several players at one spot. Here I am to offer an idea how it could be changed little bit: druidic rites in a form of music.
- temporarily buffing or even permanently boosting quality of local resource nodes. Would require presence of, say, 9 characters with a set of different musical instruments, which ones exactly should be asked of the resource node with the help of low cost hearth magic, the answer should also contain the information of which tunes must be performed and in what order. Then they start playing each tune of the list for couple of seconds (or maybe even a chord). If the ritual done correctly, then the node receives buff for an hour (+5) or perma boost (+1) for the quality of the resource. Also may require certain moon phase and have significant cooldown.
- temporarily buffing stats of one character. Also requires presence of several players with the instruments (different setups for different stats) and playing of simple melody for a short time.

Oh, forgot to mention, each participant must have Druidic Rite skill, otherwise wouldn't work.
Of course all of this technically can be botted, but will take some time and effort. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My ears start to bleed from the pure tought of that.

Apart fromt that slight issue (which would easily be solved by pressing the mute button) the idea of characters cooperating would be welcome, as long as the results are not as broken as eg. feasting currently is. Also please no additional endless growth for things, that will only make matters worse.

As a rule of thumb, everything that makes life easyer and less boring/grinding for players is a great idea. Everything that makes the game harder is crap coming from sadistic tendencies of Jorbtar helped by the few players with the same kind of disorders.

With a great chance of failure if will be very slow growth. :) But actually I agree, maybe perma buff is too op. Or maybe it can rise quality of the node just to some degree. Or even require more and more performers each time, as it works with wells and exp.

It's possible to add a simple system which would check the three most common notes played, figure the cord and than calculate effect of the "spell" by judging how many notes don't fit. That would teach hearthlings basics of musical theory and make it sound less disturbing. And then different chords could mean different spells.

+1 for the idea of actual druids doing actual druidic rites.

Unsure about the proposed execution however. I think its implementation needs to be considered carefully.

Things like ritual sacrifice to increase the bounties of nature are not all that far off base from druidic lore, as well as calling/calming the weather. Maybe even giving the forest the ability to spawn its own trees naturally (or increase the speed of their regrowth if already implemented[at ql 10 ofc]), perhaps increasing the spawn rate of certain animals in the area for a week.

I think this sort of thing would be really neat to implement if it could only occur at a certain type of site like a druid grove or a stone circle. This may be a bit bold but it would be pretty sweet if you could do enough quests for a quest giver to eventually unlock the ability to designate the area around it as a druid grove, giving it some protection (brambles, thorns, aggressive beehives??) as well as making it a place for druidic magic specifically - this sort of thing would only be available to those with druidic rites and impossible to start / create / maintain if its within the borders of a claim or village (as druids naturally congregate outside of societies / communities though they still may be a part of them. It could even function as a pseudo village type thing where new druids could be sworn into the grove by the Archdruid, with their own chat...

Oh man it could even give a visitor debuff when entering between the trees that border the grove... as a sort of sanctuary  this could be broken by simply chopping down the border trees to force one's way inside if they really wanted to destroy it...

Sorry, I'm dreaming, but it's a really good dream.
