I know it has been requested many times.
But in light of massive food rework and the desire to step away from OP feasting maybe we should address this again.
Should food decay?
I think at the VERY least we should have something akin to a negative "sizzling" debuff that happens to baked goods and meats after a certain amount of days.
Maybe after 3-4 days of sitting in a cabinet, meats and baked goods should transform in to "Old _____" and still be fully usable but have a noticeable FEP loss.
The follow up idea.
Much like Dani's crypt idea, a building very similar to a wolf's den that we can build with dirt, clay and rocks that goes directly to basement level and acts as a "root cellar." Maybe certain foods could be stored here to preserve them and stop them from getting the "Old" status. This could be the required storage for things like Milk, Wine and Beer as well?
Burying meats underground with lard or salt is a common traditional way to preserve them. Maybe there could even be a certain type of crafted storage that goes inside of these root cellars that you must load with lard or salt much like a chicken coop in order to keep your food from turning. We have lard now, and with oceans we could have mass access to salt for something like this instead of being a hunger reducer.
It stands to reason that in the future we will need something like this if we get seasons. Stockpiles of vegetables should be kept in something like a root cellar as well, right?
Another option would be to rework (some?) houses and make a second type of diggable basement that maybe doesn't require metal, and when it is finished it has a DIRT floor that cannot have cabinets on it, but rather acts identical to a root cellar.
