Terrariums, Enclosures & Small Creature Breeding

Postby Zentetsuken » Wed Jan 30, 2019 11:51 am

We can already increase the quality of worms and leeches, but what about all the small creatures and insects we have now?

Would be cool to be able to increase the quality of frogs, toads and lizards in terrariums. Maybe even hatch the frog spawn and get rare or interesting other types of frogs. Just a small enclosure made with glass, maybe 1x2 that we can fill with some kind of feed and water.

We also have so many insects now too. Would be very cool to have a dedicated enclosure for them as well. Maybe we shouoldn't be breeding our silk months in our cupboards but rather in a specialized container like a terrarium that also allows for ALL sorts of insects to be bred. I see no reason why we shouoldn't be able to breed and raise the quality of these curios like potted plants or chickens.

Cave Centipede, Cave Moth, Dragonfly, Firefly, Grasshopper, Grub, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Ladybug, Monarch Butterfly, Silkmoth, Stag Beetle, Waterstrider

These could all be bred in terrariums or small specialized enclosures, maybe only certain insects should be allowed to be in the same enclosures if any mixing is allowed at all. Some insects can eat leaves and plant matter, some can eat entrails or perhaps the aphid and larval stages of other bred insects. (Maybe we can catch midges as feed?). Things like spiders can rarely produce their webs, maybe the more valuable insects take much longer to breed.

Crab, Frog, Frogspawn, Toad, Forest Lizard, Forest Snails, Stalagoomba???, Mussels????, Snakes???

These could be all bred in terrarium or slightly larger enclosures, obviously with little or no mixing as well. Maybe we could have more varieties of frogs, toads and lizards to flesh it out a bit. I think these would all mostly eat the insects, making the entire breeding system sort of a two-tier system. Perhaps some insects that breed faster or are more useless will ultimately be used mostly for feed for the reptiles and amphibians. These could produce their respective spawns, discarded tails, skins and other interesting things.

Also, without going in to great detail a similar process could be considered for small mammals like rats, moles, squirrels and all the new birds.

Also, also, as it has been requested many times, fish.

I would like to breed midges (upping their speed and damage) so I can perform biological warfare.

I honestly don't think that is overly farfetched. We have all manners of string and thread. The idea of fashioning finer string in to a net suitable for insects and then sticking it on a pole is very much within the realm of haven thematics.

Breeding them as a means of warfare is maybe pushing it, HOWEVER, I could easily see breeding grasshoppers (locusts) en mass and having them terrorize a farm.

What specialty of midges do you prefer: fruit flies to destroy food or aggressive attack of bloodsucking?
Excuse me, I don't speak English.

+1 for the idea of biological warfare. Dress in black, come near the enemy wall, slowly, crawling... Break the terrarium containing cross-breeding insects you raised their quality day by day an entire year...
Then scream in pain because you are the closest target for your own insects. A few minutes later your intended target will find your white bones near their wall and some broken glass. And he will be very very puzzled.

As a rule of thumb, everything that makes life easyer and less boring/grinding for players is a great idea. Everything that makes the game harder is crap coming from sadistic tendencies of Jorbtar helped by the few players with the same kind of disorders.

-1 There has already been concern mentioned about foraging becoming less relevant, hunting small animals, insects, and the like are on the same path.

It may be useful to make it possible to increase the quality of these things through credos and the like, however. It would give foragers something of value to trade harvested from the environment once people are more established.
jorb: I don't want *your* money. You are rude and boring. Go away.
Sevenless: We already know real life has some pretty shitty game mechanics, it's why we're here instead.
Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.

Sure, a chance for evil plans to backfire is always fun :)

If some more things like this continue to go on then I think foraging will require new niche and usage.
