It doesn't have to be the Charter Stone (though the nostalgia in me wants it to be), but we need to see the return of people being able to randomly start at villages that have their Charter Stone Equivalent active. Before passing through whatever portal lets them start at a village charter stone they need to be presented with a warning:
"The Hearthlands are a wild and lawless place, and there is no guarantee you will land in a place that is safe for new arrivals. On the other side you may find people who will help you get started, or a swift death at the edge of a sword. If you are knocked out by another player within the first 30 minutes you'll have the option to return to this room and choose another start point or to restart back at the charter stone you came in at."
This eliminates the possibility that a new player will just get ganked with no recourse, and gives helpful communities a way to welcome in newcomers.
I have missed this mechanic since it was first removed in favor of our current Charter Stones.
For the new world can we have this mechanic returned with a viable way of telling newcomers what risks they face by going through them?
The current mechanic of 'get a password' or 'go to the forum' eliminates the possibility of helping new players who have never visited the forums. This encompassed the majority of the people I helped get established in World 3.
Bring 'em back Jorb!
