Travel weariness for small distances should be free

Postby overtyped » Thu Jan 31, 2019 10:59 am

I used to make travel roads everywhere for short distances in my base. Like one in the cave to get to the metal, one that goes from my base to the cave, etc. Most were only less than 50 tiles.
Can traveling under 50 tiles be free? It would be sad to have that enjoyment taken away :(
Maybe a credo that lets u do this? traveler credo or mountaineer credo? Nomads and travellers are different afterall.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Waiting for Granger. He would say that you should decay in 3 seconds after using such crossroads.

So that you'll have to build a line of short jumps to facilitate free long jumps?

Nah.

how about a useful reply on the topic rather than attacking someone that hasn't even replied yet? Consider it a warning.

Sounds reasonable. I'd say even as far as a couple hundred tiles. I'm not sure how this collision stuff will work, or how much TW players will take for taking short distances, though, so maybe it won't be a huge issue? IIRC, travel cost scaled exponentially with distance, so it cost little to travel a few minimaps or within your base, but you needed a lot of CHA to get across the map. (or was it AGI? I forget what travel amount was based on now, but it doesn't matter)

Nah.

Put a 30s or minute cooldown after each jump so it's not preferable? (Saying this makes me feel like I'm playing a spaceship game. Dammit!)

Just imagine how many jumps you will need to jump 1 SG by 50 tiles for each jump?

I agree, jorb's reply was a little gung-ho. Nobody is going to take the time to make their multi-grid jumps hundred+ part jumps.

Simply use follow option. A bit longer but no mouseclicks involved.

I was thinking about making intra-village travel free, but unless the devs make a check for every part of the trail SOMEONE will make a loop and plant a tree at the end-point.

You should think about it. It would be nice to be atleast able to travel from your village to a nearby swamp for free, or from the top of your village to the bottom of your village without wasting travel weariness. If the distance for it being "Free" wasn't too big then I don't think too much abuse would occur.
