tree and crop growth speed

Please add some way of checking the properties of soil if you're going to do this, same with checking crop growth speed

That sort of defeats the point of the change my dude. I think the angle the devs are going for is less certainty in what is the best tree to spam the hell out of.

it's a shitty change then, I approve of different areas being better for different trees and crops, I do not approve of completely arbitrary obtuse bullshit, if you think this will do anything to stop people spamming the best tree, you are wrong, it just makes the game a fucking tedious headache, we will still arrive at that point, but instead of it being a mechanic that the player can interact with in a fun way, it's just monotonous bullshit for the sake of monotonous bullshit.

i like it, aslong as the variance isn't greater than a day or a few hours for trees and crops, may encourage more trade. hope it doesn't affect cave fauna though but i would expect garden pot stuff isn't affected

Planting trees is not hard. Just plant a variety until you find the one that grows the fastest.

yeah let me just do that for the trees i want to grow at a decent speed at 100 different spots until i find a good location to build my village, that's a great mechanic

Considering. May, may not.

Good idea, to inspect soil it could then tell you "this soil seems to be of good quality for x trees" or some such

Whatever solution just implement some determinism.

It is already deterministic.

Basically you ask to setup the game to a state that was removed for other things (eg. inspecting animals prior death) so you can locate nodes easier, I suspect you guys only want a shortcut so you can minmax faster by being able to probe an area with a fresh spawn.
