Mining Issue: Two miners one tile

In previous worlds me and my friend have always been able to(if we want to) mine in a straight line together in a single tile. We found it fun to mine together like that, but some mining change seems to make it so your character positions himself right in the middle of the tile. Previously you could mine it from pretty much any position on a tile, so multiple people could smack the same tile from the same direction. Please bring back this mechanic. Being locked into the middle of a tile is annoying in any case.
