Hunting swans in water

So, when are swans going to start floating after being killed instead of immediately disappearing?

Same applies to any animal that can go into deep water (mallards for instance)

Just kite them onto land and punch them to death. Cant be said for mallards and the like but swans are easily killed on land.

Swans are large enough that it's probably justifiable to have them produce an actual corpse when dying, vs being an item, in my opinion. Would fix this issue in a heartbeat, it's silly that they spawn in water but are lost if killed in water.

this is true of any animal. Corpses tend to take a few minutes, at least, before sinking.

Yeah, but I'm thinking specifically from a gameplay perspective, I think swans, and eagles for that matter, are depicted as large enough that they probably shouldn't be treated like a critter when they die.

Arguably, yes, more animal corpses should float on water, but I don't know how easy that is to rig with corpses that are treated as items so I'm trying to be kinda conservative.

Killing swan causes swan to sink

Postby shubla » Sat Feb 09, 2019 1:45 pm

Why the hell it does not float? Birds do float even if they are dead. And even if they dont, it should be easy to grab them if its shallow water

Birds have large air pockets in their bones which allow them to fly despite their large size.. they should be floating like a dead fish.
And doesn't corpse generally build up gases?

I agree that they should float, especially on shallow water.

Some may think that it is easier to kill animals in water. But it is also easy to kill animals at land with alts/horses etc. So it is really a question of convenience.

The first statement is wrong. The bones are less dense than other vertebrates, but they don't have air pockets. Airfoils allow them to fly, the same thing that allows a 787 to fly. (Fun fact: it was the study of bird wings that allowed the Wright Brothers' to fly.)

If you want to know the stages of bodies in water, there are plenty of websites. Those gases don't build up for a few days. There is still air in the lungs which is why a fresh corpse will float for a short while before sinking.

This would be viable if they didn't just sod off as soon as you get them to their flee threshold.
