Cistern Cart/Wagon

Postby Fierce_Deity » Sun Feb 10, 2019 9:08 am

My suggestion is for a cart and wagon be added that just exclusively has a large tank on it that cant be removed. The cart version could hold something like a cisterns amount, and the wagon could hold maybe five cistern amounts. With using roads multiple times not being a great option any longer, I'm finding it pretty tedious to go to a water source multiple times(good q that is). Even using a cart full of barrels and hearthing like that I still find it too tedious. I'm okay with traveling being nerfed, but give us more ways to do the necessary jobs. We should be able to develop ourselves more to make a task easier than it was before. Having to fill barrels hundreds of times isn't fun, give us more options that we can invest into.

So you would obviate the need to collect water from a distant source by creating an uber cistern pullable by one character?

I think not.

Build a well, or build closer to fresh water. There's a reason people did this iRL.

If a cart isn't big enough, use a wagon.

Guess we can't have nice things. My problem with using large amounts of barrels is that I think its tedious, and it wouldn't hurt anyone to reduce the tedium in a few places. Don't get hung up on the numbers I tossed around, even a cart carrying maybe 1000 liters would be good enough. It would not have the advantage of getting to store liftable items, you would have to move at crawl speed with it filled. Just because using wagons or carts is an option now does not mean there shouldn't be a better option. We can cook inside with a normal fire, so I guess the Dev's should never add any real method of cooking to houses, right? Thats the kind of logic you seem to be using.
Every time I want water I build a cart, a boat, and 8 barrels and then hearth with all of that nonsense. Give me better reasons for this to not exist than 'there is an existing shitty mehtod', or 'muh it should stay hard'.

You can carry 600 liters in a cart. It seriously isn't that difficult to get six barrels. You'd need them to fill this cistern cart anyways. If anything people would use these for fluid storage and would have to be prohibitively difficult to make such that any tedium there is in filling six barrels would be irrelevant.

There's an option that is only slightly more tedious than the idea you're talking about. I don't think this should be a dev priority compared to new content addition or fixing areas that need attention more.

Anyone remember the days when you had to use buckets to fill barrels, tanning tubs, etc? These new kids and "fill the barrel directly from the well" just don't know how good they got it. ;)

I'm not necessarily against the idea of a "water wagon," but I don't think it would make sense to pick the wagon up and click the water source to fill it, so you still have to juggle something to fill it. At that point, isn't it just about the same effort to manage a cart or wagon?

Carts are not so bad as far as pulling out the contents goes, but opening the UI of a wagon over and over is grating. Same for the knarr. There should be a way to just grab an item out without interacting with the inventory UI. Would make unloading anything much less of a headache. I wouldn't expect a water wagon/cart to be able to fill up instantly from a well or water source, you would still use a barrel there. The difference is you wont have to make a barrel for every slot, and you wont have to click as much to get the job done. Reducing clicks is a good thing!

Just let us port with a wagon. Shit if a knarr can port, a wagon that is smaller should also. Knarr porting is stupid but hell if one can why not have all travel ability to port
