When you are at a swamp, while riding a horse. You should not acquire leeches or infected sores. Right?
You are not touching the swamp as you are on horseback.

Look up "miasma." It was long held just breathing it would make you ill. Swamps were long believed to be full of miasma.

that said, nobody said how deep the horse wades when trudging through swamp. How do you know you're not half-floating in water? Also, all those insects carry disease and such. Just accept it before life becomes more complicated.

Maybe swamps are different outside of Finland?
In Finland, swamps look like this.

Grass is like 10-20cm tall, so you should be able to avoid it while riding a horse.
(But then again, riding a horse in swamp like one pictured above may cause the horse to sink into the swamp...)
