Holstered sword

You should be able to carry a sword on your hip(or back) like an axe, it should be in your hand only when you are in combat relation.

Back scabbards are a work of pure fiction so that can go in the trash.
Where do you think you're going to hold your sword, stuck to your pants? You'd need a scabbard, an axe can easily be hooked onto a belt with a loop, not so much with a sword.
If you don't want your sword out just put in a belt slot or in your inventory.

Who cares?! They're awesome! And with all the Zelda references, why not? Let us strap our shield to it too so we can go full Link. :D

Would require both hands to be empty or just have two empty slots in a toolbelt/enough slots in inventory to set them in. If combat is initiated sword and shield are automatically equipped and anything in your hands is put in toolbelt/transferred to inventory/dropped outright.

Also btw you mean scabbard. Holsters are for guns. ;)
Total misplay.

In a game with magic, trolls, the ability to absorb the skills of your enemies by studying their skull, we're pulling in realism for sword storage?

If jorb can make it look decent it doesn't matter if it's physically possible.

It would be nice if you could see if a person has a sword hiding on his belt slot by having it strapped to the belt.

We'd definitely need daggers, then. Also, -50 stealth for having a visible sword? (Like having stealth means much.)

Would be really cool to have weapons holstered while outside of combat
