What about this kind of 'bridge'?
It can require like 10 ropes and may be can decay over time.
Also, you can only walk over it really slowly, like when you're walking close to a cliff?

That'd be nice, but the problem is one of implementation in principle. We need some expensive (in terms of dev time) code before we can make this happen.

It can be implemented as specific kind of a road that can work across the water (with posts on two sides).

Essentially another type of (Roadsign, Milestone).

Roads already work across water, though.

I think once jorb gets around to the objects on objects thing bridges will probably come into existence as will walking on the knar dock

Jorb what if you could just terramorph deep water tiles to shallow ones? by dropping soil for example. That would allow peeps to make convenient paths across rivers. Not sure how it can be exploited though...

Yeah, idk about that. I like more terraforming, but that also reduces rivers to nothing.
