Carefully walking through stockpiles

Postby popfor » Mon Feb 11, 2019 2:44 pm

Personally I think its strange how the majority of stockpiles are invisible walls and that you can't travel through them at a reduced speed. Some stockpiles, like wood, probably wouldn't make sense to be passable, and for many stockpiles it would probably be graphically wonky, but like, walking through some? stockpiles, amirite?
chance to step on and break stockpiled items would be particularly balanced and evil

I think you're referring to how certain stockpiles (flower at least, and probably feather) grow in size when filled up but they must use hitbox that is equivalent to their largest size. Not sure how much work this would be, and how beneficial it would be in the long run.

I think it has more to do with placing other piles nearby rather than "right now." It is feasible to use two boxes--one for placement at max size, another for its is current size to check passage of objects around it. It'd be a huge change to the code base, though, so if it is something they want to do, it may take some time to get it done right.

Some piles could be passable as an obstacle. I'm not sure it's worth the time to code it, though, as they're easily moved out of the way or destroyed.

Reminds me of that idea I got from bad or at least poorly worded suggestion. Thivket's could be reintroduced by adding a form of bush that allows you to move through them, but only at crawl speed and maybe consuming stamina. Same could be applied to certain stockpiles, but it would be potentially a lot of work for implementing a completely new feature. Also new animations would probably be needed to make it look good.
