Plank surfaces - roofs, paths, and docks

More things should be made of wood planks.

If I could saw a wood plank into four shingles, and use these to "thatch" my roof, instead of using OK but unnaturally green tree boughs, or exceedingly expensive tarsticks, I feel like I should be able to get a moderately expensive, nice-looking roof that doesn't look like something a hobbit would live in.

Moreover, I've requested corduroy roads before. Could we at least have cosmetic "boardwalk" roads? Trackways, corduroy roads, and boardwalks have existed since ancient times, to make crossing all kinds of terrain more tolerable. And they look cool.

Finally, I realise bridges aren't happening yet. But if it would be possible to place a wooden quay or dock, that would look great and maybe even be a good place to tether one's knarr.
"...the dungeon and shackles are already at my threshold to show me here and now my eternal disgrace. Only you can work the miracle to make life possible for a soul so imperiled by doubt, O Atoner for all, exalted beyond saying." - St. Gregory of Narek, Book of Lamentations, Prayer 1.

Absolutely agree with the shingles, although i feel like it should be a 1:1 ratio boards/shingles or even multiple boards each shingle for balance. (Why use 20 boughs on a log cabin when i could use 5 boards?"
Total misplay.

I would very much like to see roof that do not trouble the eyes before straw is abundant. Wood shingle seems as good choice here.

This is, I guess, ''wood paving.'' I would not mind it, but it does not bother me not to have it.

Are you aware of this?

I do not think 20 bough is particularly hard to get, though I will be willing to use many boards if necessary to achieve good looks.

I must admit I'm completely nonaffluent, so I've never seen such a thing.
If it could be made to connect to a boardwalk, that'd be cool.
