Walled off questgivers

Postby ErdTod » Thu Feb 14, 2019 10:45 am

There are a lot of topics suggesting some sort of protection to quest givers against chopping and chipping them down, including one mine, however, I've heard a rumor that they respawn, so potentially after one was chopped I will simply find another not so far away. (Btw anyone can confirm?)

However there is another way of griefing: walling them off. I still receive credo quests to walled talking trees, and I think other quest givers send to them as well. (But I'm not sure, since after I abandoned quests of those who were walled off - I didn't receive new ones to them. But did receive for credo)

The critique is that there's no way to "free" a walled off quest giver - because siege take so much more effort and time than walling off, as well as it will take more that one RL day, whereas chopping the tree down will take less than a minute.

The idea is to talk about this topic to come up with some ideas and suggestions for the devs how such not-fun situation can be handled. I don't want to suggest preventing walling off, but rather think on how the effort to "free" them would be on par with effort to pali the off.

Convince the landowner to kill it and save everyone in the area a headache.

Sieging will kinda convince, becuase that what I'd do if someone was winning a siege against me - just destroy what they came for. But that's a lot of resources wasted, very big threat for your characters and no reward (since there's no "base" to raid, just walled off tree) - only a chance that it's true that they respawn...

Plenty of suggestions exist, devs don't care about them being claimed/walled/chopped...

I'm almost 100% certain they respawn. it's not just the lack of indifference jorb gives to this issue, but the way he does it. It's almost like "I don't care because we foresaw this issue and already have a system in place to account for it."

But you don't have to resort to sieges. It's very likely the person living there has not a clue one of his trees is conversant. Worth noting that if it's a half dozen stones chipped down so they can be carried, there's a good chance it was intentional.

Used to stop being a quest giver right at that moment. Was it changed?

I don't recall what changes were made around the stones, if any... What I recall is no changes have been made. i'd have to dig through old patch notes to be sure.

Well, in this exact case noone lives there and claim was made with griefing purpose in mind. After that almost all questgivers in vicinity were destroyed. Question is more about how easy it is to grief questgivers and how hard it is to punish players for it, because, from game perspective, they are not criminals. They leave no scents and besieging palisade in unfeasible. Griefing is extremely unpleasant thing when it happens to you and you cannot punish player who did it.

Ive got a habit of intentionally Pclaiming and walling off all the quest givers in my local area.

Usually access is open to anyone and the grounds are well maintained and I even provide free seating, An offerings disposal service and sometimes even a water source. But I also reserve the right to refuse service :3

If only I could put a pay toll on them

When I think about it... Might be my memory, actually, which is in the wrong here.
