Not instant death

Postby Lojka » Fri Feb 15, 2019 10:34 am

I got one idea, to make game more friendly to new players.
Maybe there was many of topics like this, but anyway

i read http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=44710 this topic, and i agree
you should be able to make other player don't do things, you don't want, by attacking or breaking their stuff (walls or claims)

But in current system i see 2 main problems (if you play all parts of game = you have rage):
1. you can walk in forest and if you meet some people, you not play this game anymore (they kill you)
2. same for water: if u accidently loose boat (by vortex or other player), you not play this game anymore (you are drown)

ofc some hardcore players will have second characters, so if they loose one, this is not realy a problem. But most ppl don't have resources (time included) to make 2 characters, one war peace and one for war. Some players prefer to play one single character, as we don't have split personality

so to make 1 or 2 never happen, some players will:
1. never get rage
2. never swim in deep water

so they will ignore a good part of the game

Rage changes is good, now at least sprucehat hermits won't be raped. But can we make it even better ?

I got one idea, main concept: you death should not be instant.

so in real life:
1. people lost in ocean find themselfs ashore, heavily injured, and they make camps and start to talk to a leather ball
2. even if you'v been stabbed in dark alley, you won't just die. You will have serious injury, but month or too and you are walking again.

So my idea is to:
give a player a second chance

Something like, you will have prevent from death buff with like 1 week cooldown.

so if you drown in ocean:
you instead are teleported to random ocean beach, you HF broken, so you lost somewhere, you got heavily injured, like 80% hhp damage, that will heal for a weak.

if someone try to kill you, same:
you got heavy injury, 80% hhp damage, -stats, heal for a week, but alive.

Main concept: i will rather get raped, that be dead totally.

For casual players death = quit game, and wait for next world reset.

And if u will be injured for week instead of death, this will already help you win war against someone. You just limb all their ppl for a week and go siedge them.
They are alive and will build new base, and you will again have someone to raid.
Everyones wins.

And if some hardcore players still want permadeth in pvp, we can again have mureder skill, but this time, murders will be able to kill only murders, so they limb other characters, and kill murders.
This way high-end factions will play in their "murder" tier, and others in their wound-based pvp

The rage changes actually legitimized permadeath pvp again where it didn't exist for much of last world. It is actually a step backwards in that regard, but indeed it's opt in so to speak.

Except for drowning, the pre-rage changes death was like that. You could have devastating injuries in addition to lost equipment and for most players its likely a set back for a long time.

I dont like rage and credo changes, now i'm basically forced to make an alt for everything including pvp...

PvP alts are always going to be a thing in permadeath games. I like the idea that my main is now safe from pvp death as I'll always have a fallback to play while my combat char recovers.

Overall I think drowning is in a good place except with regards to high seas and dugouts/rowboats. I've introduced a good 4 noobs this world and every one of them got brain damage before they learned to respect swimming. But none of them faceplanted into death during their beginner experiences with either wildlife or drowning.
