Firing Pottery

Postby Teilur » Thu Feb 21, 2019 9:02 am

With the fuel bug fixed a very inconvenient thing emerged. As u may know an Urn, a Pot and a Garden Pot requires a fully fueled kiln to fire or 30 branches to be exact. But sometimes an additional branch is needed. So, until W11 that was not a problem at all, since we could add another good branch and go on. But now in this case all firing progress is reset - so either fire this again or/and monitor progress so that one adds another branch if needed.

So, I'd suggest make all that more consistent:

2 branches - bricks and all food;
6 branches - curios and bone ash;
12 branches - all symbel and ash from foods;
24 branches - all large pottery (including treeplanter's pot).

Exact values are the subject of discussion, but the main idea is to add consistency AND to reduce somewhat the maximum branches needed to fire large pots. Of course, the increased fuel capacity of a kiln (say, to 35 branches) also solves that issue, but I (personally) do not like this.

This, please. There's no need to turn pottery into steelmaking.

This is pretty much non issue however, all the recipes (like gardening pot) that need something like whatever the max sticks is:
1) put max sticks in, light thing up
2) wait for a few moments (not that demanding)
3) put in another stick

Problem solved.

Because it's solvable by players doesn't make it a good mechanic.

There's always room for improvement, sure. Might be that this is 5 seconds fix. Or something so insignificant that Jorbtar shouldn't bother with it.

If there are goods that must be fired for longer than maximum time fuel in kiln can burn, I think this should not be.

Imo make the burn time 29 sticks, occasionally it hits 30. Solves the issue with presumably a very quick fix in the code.

yeah, it's a 5 minute fix for a massive headache.
