Game map: view all layers

Game map: view all layers

Postby MagicManICT » Tue Feb 26, 2019 8:03 am

I'd like to be able to access all the layers of my map without actually going there.

At the same time, sort the pins and filter out the ones that don't show up on the current layer I'm looking at.

I would be happy in case mineholes and caves would automatically mark on the map (similar to how resources get remembered) and be able to click them on the map to look at the layer they lead to.

As we seldom get nice things: You can work around the current limitations by marking matching portals (cave entrance, minehole) on both layers with a name that only differs in a suffix, then click the one on the current layer on the map to highlight it the list, click the matching one (next to it in the list) to see the other side - rinse&repeat. Can also be done with vortexes (at least for a while till they switch).

So no to filtering the pins not on the current level, at least not controlled through a toggle, to not break the workaround and to not break access to seen stuff that eg. is on the other side of a vortex (as that'll be on a different map, from the perspective of how not connected map sections work).

No, please. Consider prospecting.
Also, in the context of prospecting, ability to match and show two layers at once as some mapping tools do. Optionally ability to set some markers as "all-layers".

Edit: Possibly a custom client feature: auto adding a flag when prospecting shows ore / optionally auto adding a flag for any kind of rock and then tools for easier removing markers by selecting multiple ones ;)

Filters could be optional. I'm not saying it has to always filter out by layer so you can never see the layers above. The idea is to increase usability, after all.

You already can do that using markers. Click any marker on the given layer and you can see that part of the map.

But it definitely can be improved, and most useful addition would be layer matching and transparency.

A minor tweak where we could easily switch between world layers for the map would be very cool indeed.

He wants to see the prospect markers while looking at the layer bellow I guess. But as MagicMan said, it's supposed to be an option.

Would like some type of jumping up/down layers and the ability to extend flags between multiple. Doesn't need to be fancy, just a "Mark this flag on layer: 1,2,3" or something + a button to switch between them.

That said, I don't think the maps currently anchor to each other. That's the functionality upgrade needed for this.

Aye. the problem is you have to remember which markers are which or pick a naming scheme (which I already use). I don't want a cluttered interface, but on the other hand, there's only so many options for names and colors before it becomes mental juggling.
