Troll culture/village/dungeon

What are they anyway? A green mass of slime infused with meat or are they cave hermits who mutated after years of isolation?
If yes then that would explain why they dont attack cave hermits...
but how old they exacly?Hundreds years?Thousand?
Maybe they the only survivors of "Apocalypse" that destroyed all hearthlings long time ago, leaving only the deepest part of cavest safe?

I would love to see more troll-related things added in future.
Maybe even troll faction with king? Would be fun to see mid-world related event when miners reach troll fortness in cave lvl 5. Full of unique treasure, but also full of trolls.
But would trolls just wait when their own home is attacked? Counter-attack by destroying all supports in related cave to eliminate the path to them and also bury any miner who didnt escape in time.

I think trolls by definition do not have culture.
